He has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science, MS in Health Administration, and has completed the coursework for a Ph.D. in Global Leaders. Before accepting the position at St. Thomas,Chief Lanza was the Fire Chief for the Broward Sheriff’s Office Department of Fire Rescue. In 2003, Chuck left the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department after reaching the rank of Deputy Fire Chief and having been the County’s Emergency Manager from 1995 until 2003. He is now retired and is the President of Fields, Batista, and Peterson, LLC a Homeland Security, Fire and EMS, and Emergency Management consulting company. He resides in Cooper City with his wife of 27 years Kathy.
